LG Launches Global ‘Optimism Your Feed’ Campaign to Foster Positivity Online

In a bid to combat the overwhelming presence of negative content on social media platforms, LG Electronics has announced the launch of its latest global campaign, ‘Optimism Your Feed.’ Developed in partnership with TBWA\Chiat\Day New York, this initiative seeks to empower users to curate a more positive and uplifting social media experience by actively engaging with inspiring content on their feeds.

Kim Hyo-Eun, Vice President and Head of LG’s Brand Management Division, emphasized LG’s commitment to championing optimism and positivity. “As a customer-focused brand, LG aims to create positive changes in people’s lives by fostering optimism both online and in the real world,” Hyo-eun stated. “In the AI era, LG remains dedicated to our unwavering promise of ‘Life’s Good,’ enhancing our customers’ lives with a human-centric approach.”

A recent global survey commissioned by LG revealed that social media serves as both a source of entertainment and a trigger for anxiety among users. Shockingly, nearly half of respondents reported encountering more negative content than positive on their feeds, with a significant portion attributing this to increased anxiety and unhappiness. LG’s ‘Optimism Your Feed’ campaign aims to address these concerns by offering users a curated playlist of original, uplifting content designed to counterbalance negativity.

The playlist, curated in collaboration with renowned global influencers like Tina Choi, Victoria Browne, and Josh Harmon, features over 20 short-form videos spanning various motivational and feel-good themes. Moreover, LG has enlisted the expertise of social media experts such as Professor Casey Fiesler to better understand the impact of algorithms on users’ online experiences and to provide insights on improving digital literacy.

Professor Fiesler emphasized the importance of users’ engagement with optimistic content in reshaping algorithmic predictions. “Recommendation algorithms determine what we see on social media by predicting our content preferences,” Fiesler explained. “By actively engaging with optimistic content, users can influence these predictions and cultivate a more positive online environment.”

Victoria Browne, a global influencer and TEDx Talk speaker echoed the sentiment, highlighting the profound impact of social media algorithms on users’ mental health. Browne expressed her passion for the ‘Optimism Your Feed’ campaign, emphasizing its potential to encourage positivity and connectedness online.

LG’s ‘Optimism Your Feed’ campaign signifies a proactive step towards fostering a more positive online culture. By empowering users to curate their social media feeds with uplifting content, LG aims to inspire optimism, balance, and happiness in the digital realm. As social media continues to play an integral role in our lives, initiatives like ‘Optimism Your Feed’ serve as a beacon of hope for a brighter and more uplifting online future.
