Navneet Education, one of India’s leading schoolbook publishers, has launched an innovative initiative aimed at addressing Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD), also known as colour blindness. In collaboration with FCB Group India and experts in the field of ophthalmology and education, Navneet Education has developed an early learning book designed to help detect this condition in young children.
The Colour Blindness Detection Book cleverly integrates Ishihara-style colour vision tests into its illustrations. This allows teachers and parents to identify potential colour vision issues in children during their early school years, helping with early detection and support.
According to Dr. Malgi, a renowned ophthalmologist involved in the project, around 10 million children in India are affected by colour vision deficiency. Most of these children remain undiagnosed for years since the condition does not visibly disrupt their learning. However, it can affect a child’s confidence, participation, and long-term academic success.
Colour-blind children often face challenges in subjects like math, science, geography, and art, where colour recognition is essential. They may be mistakenly labelled as slow learners or inattentive, when in fact they struggle to differentiate colours. By detecting the condition early, this initiative ensures children receive the support they need through tailored learning strategies.
This innovative book integrates a simple, yet effective design to help detect colour blindness early and provide the necessary support. As Devish Gala, Director of Branding, Marketing & Sales at Navneet Education, stated, “It’s our responsibility as educators to make learning more inclusive for every child, ensuring that no child gets left behind.”
Navneet Education’s initiative marks an important shift in how educational barriers are tackled in India, using design and empathy to make learning more inclusive and accessible for all children.
