CelcomDigi & Borneo Artists: Turning Plant Vibes into Festival Music in Captivating Documentary

The Gawai and Kaamatan festivals annually honor the land’s generosity with abundant rice harvests. In a refreshing approach this year, CelcomDigi’s One Team – NagaDDB Tribal and M&C Saatchi – embarked on a journey to celebrate the deep connection between land and people.

Through a mesmerizing docu-film, this theme unfolds as a testament to a bond beyond human interaction. The narrative revolves around their quest to craft a musical project steeped in ancestral roots, featuring Sape musician Alena Murang, music producer Joshua Maran, and Sundatang revivalist Gindung.

Documented by Kelabit filmmaker Sarah Lois Dorai, this film aims to reconnect Malaysians with their intrinsic link to nature, exploring the intricate dynamics of our modern relationship with the land. It challenges viewers to reflect on what the land has bestowed upon us and what we, in turn, offer back. Ultimately, it urges a collective celebration of the harvest festivals through acts of love, care, and respect for our shared home.

Adding a unique dimension, the film incorporates sonification technology, translating plant vibrations into enchanting melodies. By blending modern synthesizers with traditional instruments like the Sape’, Sundatang, and Kulintangan, the musicians create a harmonious ode to nature’s gifts.

Alvin Teoh, Chief Creative Officer of the One Team, shares, “Through this story, we hope audiences will feel the profound interconnectedness with the land we inhabit. By recognizing this bond, we can transition from mere consumers to custodians, caring for the environment in our ways, wherever we are.”

With stunning visuals and evocative music, this festive film also underscores CelcomDigi’s commitment to environmental stewardship as a growing telco-tech entity.
