New Zealand Invites You to Dine at the ‘Restaurant with the Most Stars’

Tourism New Zealand, in collaboration with Special PR, has launched a new campaign spotlighting Aotearoa New Zealand’s breathtaking night skies and culinary delights by unveiling the ‘restaurant with the most stars.’ This pop-up dining experience, set beneath the stunning Southern Alps at Kura Tawhiti, offers visitors an unforgettable combination of starlit skies and world-class cuisine.

Tourism New Zealand invited 50 global tastemakers, including Masterchef Australia judge Sofia Levin and Ashley Day of the US’ Food and Wine, to experience this one-of-a-kind event. Renowned chef Ben Bayly crafted a unique menu showcasing the best of New Zealand’s produce, highlighting the country’s culinary excellence in a setting that goes beyond traditional Michelin Star rankings.

Brodie McLeish, General Manager of Marketing at Tourism New Zealand, emphasized that the campaign aims to attract year-round visitors by combining the allure of New Zealand’s dark skies with its vibrant food culture. Research shows that 70% of potential off-peak visitors are drawn to New Zealand’s night sky experiences, while 85% of travelers from key markets consider food a top interest.

Kelly Grindle, Managing Director at Special PR, expressed excitement about showcasing New Zealand’s culinary culture globally, despite the absence of the Michelin Guide due to the country’s remote location. The event, supported by ChristchurchNZ and mana whenua, underscores New Zealand’s appeal as a top destination for food and travel enthusiasts alike.
