Mountain Dew has just unveiled a quirky new Super Bowl ad featuring Grammy-winning singer Seal in a hilarious and unexpected role. For the second year in a row, the brand is focusing on its Baja Blast Tropical Lime flavor, and this year, Seal takes the spotlight in a reworked version of his classic hit “Kiss from a Rose,” now called “Kiss from a Lime.”
In the ad, pop star Becky G is transported to a surreal tropical beach after taking a sip of Mountain Dew Baja Blast. There, she is serenaded by Seal, who appears as a real seal on the beach, surrounded by other seals. His unique performance of the song is a fun and unexpected twist, with lyrics like “My flippers can’t hold Mountain Dew / It slips right on through, what a shame.” The commercial also features a dramatic moment when orcas swim toward Seal, only for his powerful voice to stop them in their tracks.
The commercial, directed by award-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi, will air during the second quarter of the Super Bowl. Mountain Dew’s Baja Blast flavor is the focal point for the second consecutive year, following last year’s ad with Aubrey Plaza and Nick Offerman. This year, the brand is also hosting two activations in New Orleans, where fans can engage with the brand and enjoy Baja Blast samples.
Seal’s participation in the campaign adds a fun twist to his iconic hit song, giving it a fresh and playful vibe. Fans can look forward to seeing more of the ad and its hilarious moments when it airs on Super Bowl Sunday.
