Indonesia’s Top Action Star Tackles Cyber Threats in Google Play’s Latest Campaign

In an era where online gaming continues to surge, reaching an impressive $1.79 billion in 2023 and capturing nearly 46% of Southeast Asia’s gaming demographic, the stakes for cybersecurity have never been higher. Google Play, in collaboration with DDB Group Singapore, has launched an innovative campaign aimed at Indonesian gamers, urging them to stay vigilant against hidden cyber threats.

This campaign stars Indonesia’s premier action hero, Iko Uwais, known for his iconic roles in The Raid, Expendables, and Star Wars. Uwais brings his cinematic flair to the ‘Protect Your Play’ initiative, highlighting the critical importance of online security through a visually compelling narrative.

The campaign showcases Uwais navigating the vibrant worlds of Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Freefire, and EA Sports FC, popular platforms with significant user engagement and in-game spending. Unlike his usual action-packed roles, Uwais finds himself facing unexpected threats as his virtual assets and personal data become targets for cybercriminals. This storyline serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with unsecured gaming environments.

Google Play’s advanced security measures, including two-step verification and industry-standard data encryption, are featured prominently, demonstrating how these technologies safeguard users from online threats. The platform’s ability to allow users to top up within the game itself ensures a seamless and secure experience.

The campaign, which debuted with a teaser on Uwais’ Instagram channel, quickly garnered over 3.5 million views within 24 hours, with the full-length film now exceeding 11 million views. Complemented by 15-second game-specific ads, influencer collaborations, and enticing promotions, this multifaceted approach is designed to not only engage but also educate gamers on the importance of online safety.
