Luminous and AutumnGrey Work to Break STEM Bias in ‘Women in Energy’ Campaign

In celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day, AutumnGrey, a Grey company, and Luminous Power Technologies have launched their impactful #WomenInEnergy campaign. This campaign is dedicated to breaking down the hidden biases that often exist in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

For many in India, there’s an unspoken belief that when children excel in science, it’s the father who usually guides them. This assumption often leads people to overlook the potential of women in STEM fields, especially when it comes to complex tasks like science homework or projects.

The campaign’s film presents a school science exhibition where a young girl proudly displays a solar energy project. But instead of recognizing her work, teachers and judges immediately question whether her father helped her. This scenario highlights the common bias that STEM expertise is assumed to belong to men, disregarding the skills and talents of women.

However, the film takes an unexpected turn. The young girl’s mother, revealed as a chief engineer at Luminous Solar, is shown as a role model who defies these outdated stereotypes. She is a shining example of how women in the energy sector are breaking boundaries and challenging societal norms.

“True empowerment is about confronting hidden biases that hold women back,” says Anusha Shetty, Chairperson and Group CEO of Grey India. “Through this film, we aim to raise awareness of how unconscious bias can shape our perceptions, even if it’s unintentional. We want to create a world where every girl can shine without limitations.”

The #WomenInEnergy campaign also celebrates the contributions of women who have been leading the way in energy and STEM industries—fields traditionally dominated by men. Neelima Burra, Chief Strategy Transformation & Marketing Officer at Luminous Power Technologies, shares, “We want to shine a light on the women who are defying expectations and leading innovations in the energy sector. This campaign is a part of our broader commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

Luminous is further reinforcing this commitment with their Inclusion Month, a month-long series of activities designed to drive measurable change within the company. Through leadership discussions, workshops, and candid conversations, Luminous is fostering an environment where women can thrive and where inclusion becomes a way of life.

This campaign serves as a reminder that real change happens when we challenge the biases that have been ingrained in our society. Together, AutumnGrey and Luminous Power Technologies are working to inspire the next generation of women to pursue careers in energy, STEM, and beyond.
