Everyone knows the frustration—look away for a moment, and your McDonald’s fries are gone! To tackle this timeless problem, McDonald’s Taiwan, in collaboration with their agency Leo Taiwan, has launched a fun, inventive solution: a brand-new martial art called ‘Kung Fries’, designed to protect your fries from sneaky fingers.
To bring this unique concept to life, McDonald’s Taiwan called in Kung Fu legend Scott Hung, known for his work on some of Taiwan’s most iconic martial arts films and a Golden Horse Award-winning action choreographer. Master Hung has designed five easy-to-learn defensive moves:
-
Hold Your Horses
-
Soft as a Breeze, Strong as a Storm
-
Divine Finger Flick
-
Buddha’s Palm of Fries
-
Now You See It, Now You Don’t
These five levels of training are woven into a three-minute Kung Fu comedy video directed by Leo Wang (Breaking & Re-entering, The 9th Precinct), starring rising talent Man-Si Ho. Master Hung choreographed the moves, and Chris Hou provided the music, creating a lively, entertaining guide to becoming a Kung Fries master.
Cindy Lin, CMO of McDonald’s Taiwan, explains, “McDonald’s fries are irresistibly delicious, and people are always sneaking a bite. We loved the idea of solving this timeless problem while also reviving Gen Z’s love of Kung Fu, which is a core part of Taiwan’s cultural DNA.”
Kevin Yang, CEO and Chief Creative Officer at Leo Taiwan, adds, “By reimagining martial arts with a modern twist, we invite the world to learn this uniquely Taiwanese approach to defending your fries.”
In Taiwan, Kung Fu has been losing prominence among Gen Z audiences despite the country’s rich martial arts heritage. But with instructional videos on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram Reels, anyone can now become a Kung Fries master at home.
Jason Williams, Head of Creative Excellence at Publicis Groupe APAC, says, “With its Gen Z cast, action-packed moves, and plenty of fries, McDonald’s Taiwan has created the ultimate Kung Fu lesson for fans in Taiwan and across the globe.”

The five Kung Fries defensive moves are inspired by Eastern martial arts, particularly Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Jeet Kune Do.
Alongside the videos, every McDonald’s Taiwan meal now includes a Kung Fries tutorial printed on tray mats, and the brand encourages fans to share their own fries defense stories. Lucky participants even get a chance to win a 999 or 24-carat golden fry, making the experience even more fun and engaging.
