Dave Cameron to leave SCA after 30 years of dedicated service

After an extraordinary 30-year career with Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), Chief Content Officer Dave Cameron has announced his departure from the company. Starting his journey as an on-air announcer, Cameron rose through the ranks to become one of the most influential figures in Australian radio.

Throughout his tenure, he played a vital role in building successful content, nurturing new talent, and leading iconic shows such as Hamish & Andy, often referred to as Australia’s most successful radio program. Known for his creative leadership and sharp content instincts, Cameron also held roles as music director, content director, and general manager across key SCA stations including 2DayFM, Fox FM, and the Hit Network.

Cameron became SCA’s Chief Content Officer in 2019. Under his leadership, he revived legacy stations like SAFM in Adelaide and B105 in Brisbane, and guided strategy during challenging periods—especially with Sydney’s 2DayFM, which recently underwent a content refresh to appeal to younger audiences.

Reflecting on his departure, Cameron said:

“I’m immensely proud of the new leaders, new talent, and teams that I’ve built and brought through over many years to keep the broadcast and podcast industry vibrant and new audiences coming in. This deeply personal ambition to keep developing fresh leadership and talent means that the time has rightly come for me to now step away and watch those remarkable people continue the exciting momentum.”

SCA CEO John Kelly praised Cameron’s contributions in an internal email, noting that he had helped shape the careers of many SCA announcers and teams:

“Our listeners everywhere have benefitted from his powerful ability to create magic content moments for many decades. Dave, you should be immensely proud of your career to date and I know that the future will hold wonderful things for you.”

As SCA evaluates the future structure of the Chief Content Officer role, the company plans to begin a recruitment process later this year. In the meantime, Matthew O’Reilly will take on an expanded position as Head of Broadcast Content, reporting directly to CEO John Kelly. O’Reilly will also continue to oversee the Triple M Network.

Cameron will remain available in an advisory capacity over the coming months, offering guidance during the transition period.

His departure marks the end of a remarkable era for SCA, one shaped by creativity, resilience, and a deep commitment to Australian radio storytelling.
